This project expects to integrate ecological factors into the planning and siting of power production facilities to minimize or negate impacts on aquatic habitats and resources. This project will measure the positive environmental and ecological results through a combination of modeling, macro-level analysis, and the development of a future pilot project where environmental and energy decision makers will be involved in applying the results of the regional and subregional analyses to examine and make decisions about the future of energy production within their jurisdiction or watershed(s). Long-term ecological outcomes include additional protections of rare and unique aquatic habitats from impacts associated with specific power generation technologies, reduction in water use and/or consumption of water from the power production sectors and associated environmental benefits thereof (e.g., in areas sensitive to water level fluctuations).
