Coupling the flow of water with the flow of information. It’s an interesting concept and one that the Fund thinks has the power to be transformational. Branko Kerkez, assistant professor at the University of Michigan, is working on applying that concept by controlling the flow of stormwater in urban areas with a system that can sense volume and optimize flow in real time.
Here is a short video introduction to Dr. Kerkez and his Fund-supported work.
“We will show that intelligent stormwater grids have the potential to fundamentally revolutionize the interaction between meteorology, hydrologic systems, and man-made infrastructure across the Great Lakes.”
