Announcing Nearly $1.5 M of Investments in Two Project Teams

The Great Lakes Protection Fund is excited to announce the investment of nearly $1.5 million in two innovative regional projects that will launch and accelerate novel solutions to enhance the health of the Great Lakes and its ecosystems.

Empowering Water Managers with Digital Tools ($1,300,000) led by Hyfi, LLC

In this implementation project, Hyfi will develop an open-source, AI-driven Digital Operator Toolbox to help operators better manage stormwater.  The innovative decision support tool intends to reduce errors that lead to nutrient runoff, sediment loss, and overflow events. Across four counties and four midsized cities in the Great Lakes region, stormwater operators, county officials, and industry experts will collaborate to build this innovative Toolbox. Managed grazing, a regenerative agriculture practice, can reduce nitrogen and phosphorus loads, improve soil health, and provide many other co-benefits. Dairy Grazing Alliance will collaborate with dairy producers, scientific advisors, brand leaders, and other stakeholders to map out the process for developing a shared standard to align managed grazing practices.
